International Gems of Altamer: Anguilla Villas
The Caribbean is known for its privacy, but the island of Anguilla offers seclusion you won’t find anywhere else. With over 30 beaches, there are lots of options available if you’re looking to fly below the radar. But for celebrity clientele looking for something more lavish, the Altamer Resort offers space and privacy that can’t be beat. Since 2004, guests have included winners of Nobel Prizes, Oscars, and Emmys, along with top Wall Street’s execs and other international figures representing the highest levels of accomplishment. As Forbes magazine describes the experience: “You realize that Altamer is going for the perfectionist villa experience.”
Located on the island’s exclusive West End on Shoal Bay, this resort is a series of three massive Anguilla villas, each with its own completely private beach. There you’ll bask upon the powdery white sands in total seclusion, the ocean a canvas of rare turquoise you can’t find anywhere else. But Altamer offers more than just beautiful scenery. You enter the villa and are instantly amazed with the use of space, sprawling and open. And the farther up you go up the levels the more bright and airy it gets. Each of the three Anguilla villas is named after a different country and gemstone, and each reflects the art and style of its namesake.
Designed by world-renowned architect, Myron Goldfinger and decorated by his wife, June, the villas feel more like an art gallery than a resort. Guests are surrounded with more than a half a million dollars worth of museum quality artifcacts from Brazil, Africa, and Russia. Whether it’s having your own personal beach, a massive amount of living space, or just the desire to have your own bartender, it’s clear that the Altamer is the Caribbean’s most exclusive address. So how much will all of this exclusivity set you back? One week in the Sapphire (including a personal butler and eight other dedicated staff plus breakfast and canapés) at high season will cost you about $100,000 for the two-week minimum. Although at the Amethyst in low season, it’s only $30,000 per week.
