Anguilla is obviously the place to be if you want to relax on the white sand beaches and at your exclusive resorts just watching the world go by. But for a relatively sleepy island, Anguilla throws some excellent parties. Here’s a short version of the highlights you can look forward to experiencing on your next Anguilla vacation:
“The Event” European Celebrity Golf Tournament at the CuisinArt Golf Resort and Spa: Come watch some excellent golf at one of the best resorts in Anguilla.
Miss Valentine Beauty Pageant: Come watch the most babealicious babes in Anguilla vie it out on this day of love.
Moonsplash 2014: This is the preeminent musical celebration on Anguilla, a four-day festival that plays the finest Caribbean reggae and roots as everyone dances and has fun. It’s held at the super cool Dune Preserve beach club on Rendezvous Bay, the bar of legendary artist and host of Moonsplash, Bankie Banx. Known as the “Anguillan Bob Dylan”, Banx has released many albums and has played with many of the biggest names in music – and knows how to put on a great show. It’s the longest running independent music festival in the Eastern Caribbean and has become a top showcase for vintage reggae acts and emerging talent. Leave your shirts and shoes at the hotel and come celebrate peace and love, Anguilla style.
Festival Del Mar: Every Easter Saturday and Sunday the gorgeous fishing village of Island Harbour throws a party that includes a deep sea fishing competition for the biggest haul, boat racing, swimming races, crab races, a cooking competition, and a live string band to set the ambience off right.
Anguilla Lit Fest: come find yourself inspired with the celebration of the fine literary heritage of Anguilla in three days of informative workshops, seminars, and presentations by authors from all over North America and the Caribbean.
Anguilla Summer Festival: another good reason to visit in the low season (including the even smaller crowds and better rates) is the Summer Festival, a 10 day celebration of Anguilla’s national sport: boat racing. Going strong for nearly 50 years, you can cheer on the boats in the regattas from the beach by day and celebrate with traditional Carnival activities by night when the streets get vibrant and pulsing with Caribbean style. The Festival will be full of pageants, calypso competitions, street dancing, and general revelry.
Grand Parade of Troupes: the Valley streets of Anguilla become filled with people cheering on the floats of the parade with their colorful costumes depicting fantasy and cultural themes and the entire rainbow of colours all moved onwards with excellent Caribbean music
Christmas Celebrations get going in Caribbean style with the Festival de Noel including competitions and pageants, as Anguillans love to do. There’s the Christmas Tree Lighting of the mahogany trees, all serenaded with barbeques and string bands, proving that one does not need a big fir tree to celebrate Xmas. Bring your family down and have some fun.
